Homemade Chocolate Syrup











** Recipe from 52 Kitchen Adventures **


* 1 1/4 c. sugar
* 1 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1 c. water
* 1/4 tsp. salt
* 2 tsp. vanilla extract

In a medium saucepan, whisk together sugar and cocoa powder until most of the lumps are gone. Add water and salt and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently. Bring to a boil and cook for a few minutes, until thickened, continuing to stir frequently. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes, then add vanilla extract. Store in air tight container in the fridge.
To make chocolate milk, add 1 tablespoon of chocolate sauce to a cup of milk and stir until combined.

Papa John's Pizza Sauce

1 (10 3/4 oz.) can tomato puree
* 1/4 c. water
* 1 Tbl. sugar
* 1 tsp. olive oil
* 1/4 tsp. salt
* 1/4 tsp. oregano
* 1/8 tsp. basil
* 1/8 tsp. thyme
* 1/8 tsp. garlic powder

Combine ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. This is also great as a dipping sauce for garlic bread.
